Paycom, a leading provider of a human capital management software solution, has been honored as a member of Inc. magazine’s inaugural list of The Build 100, which recognizes less than 1.5 percent of U.S.-based companies that are noted as sustained-growth champions.
“This award is a reflection of Paycom’s outstanding client and employee base as well as our commitment to providing innovative HR technology solutions and services to our customers,” said Chad Richison, Paycom Founder and CEO. “We are honored to be recognized by Build 100 as this acknowledgement embodies business development and growth that directly contributes to broad economic success in the market.”
Members of The Build 100 were determined based on a five-year study focusing on a company’s steady growth in employee head count.
“It’s a remarkably difficult standard to meet; fewer than 1.5 percent of companies made the cut,” said Inc. Executive Editor Scott Leibs. “From there, we selected a representative subset of companies that agreed to collaborate with us in analyzing the managerial DNA of their success. Thus, The Build 100 was born.”
The findings were based on a study launched by economist Gary Kinkle, who examined more than 100,000 American businesses with between 85 and 999 employees. He determined that 72 percent of all the new jobs in the U.S. were created by a mere 1 percent of its companies. His goal then was to identify those companies that experienced sustained growth, including those that added head count for five consecutive years, from 2007 to 2012 – a period during which the country experienced one of the worst economic recessions in history.
“It’s akin to Aesop’s tortoise and hare story: Slow and steady wins the race,” Kunkle said. “Incremental advancement, repeated over time, achieves greater results. That said, Build 100 companies grew, on average, 35 percent annually during the five years studied. Growth is a learning curve. As firms grow more often, they learn how to do it again and again.”
