Julie (she/her) is an account executive in our sales department, finding new businesses that can benefit from Paycom’s world-class HR and payroll software. With over a decade of experience crushing goals in multiple markets, her different roles have allowed her to adapt and grow both at work and at home!
We sat down with Julie to talk about how the paths she’s taken through her Paycom journey have led to success.
Plans change
I was recruited to Paycom by a friend I met volunteering at a women’s organization. At the time, I had been working in sales for a plumbing wholesaler for six years and was happy with what I was accomplishing there.
But through the interview process, I quickly realized I could do more here. I can be more, and I can put myself in a position to contribute in a different way than in my prior job. Ultimately, it wasn’t about just trying a different industry or changing careers. It was really saying, “I’m going to change my career path and trajectory here at Paycom.”
Room to grow
I came into Paycom as an account executive. Over my nearly 12-year career here, I covered multiple offices and territories, including Minneapolis, Minnesota, where I was promoted to lead an office. I came back to Oklahoma after marrying to take on a traveling market: Las Vegas. I covered Vegas for four years, during which my first child was born. The natural next step for me was to move into emerging markets.
Then we had twins. I’d been single when I started at Paycom, and then I was married with three young children. Once my home life had slowed down a bit and my children became toddlers, I decided to get back into the field.
At Paycom, I’ve been able to grow and adapt, and Paycom has adapted with me. Being able to know that you can have a career in many different stages of your life is really amazing.
Clear paths to success
The most important thing to me when I made my decision to join Paycom was seeing the potential and vision of what kind of career I could create. After starting, it was further confirmed by all the talented, driven people around me.
My fellow sales reps were seeing wild success financially, personally, professionally. I’m extremely passionate about taking time for family and not being forced to choose between them and my job. My sales teammates were able to balance a successful career and a family. As I shadowed them, I saw I could do this. I could see myself being a working parent. The benefits, like parental leave; the company’s continued focus on diversity, equity and inclusion; and employee resource groups (ERGs) such as our Working Parents and Caregivers ERG are all really important to me.
Something that’s very special about Paycom is the ability to do that and feel supported along the way. I knew that if I put my head down and did the work, I could forge my own path for where I wanted to go in life. To have that freedom is important to me. Things have settled to where I feel like I can switch gears again to go back to my first love: outside sales. It fires me up.
I’m so happy and excited to be back in this role, setting a new pace for myself that I can be proud of.
