Lead an Ambitious Life

Bonny Calfy | July 30, 2015

Ambition is a strong desire and determination to achieve success, but real-life is tough and full of obstacles. It will throw you a curveball and you may begin to doubt your goals in life are even achievable, so how do you dig deep within yourself to attain the goals you’ve set before you?

Real-Life Can be Tough

Imagine this. You work hard during college and you know exactly what you want to do with your life after graduation. Then you get out into the workforce and your dream job is nowhere to be found. What’s your next step?

This is where ambition comes into play. Your dream job may be attainable if you’re with the right company. You just have to work for it. You may need to start at the bottom and climb your way to the top. An ambitious person doesn’t see obstacles as a deterrent; they see them as a challenge to be overcome. Everyone has to start somewhere, just make sure your somewhere is right for you.

Power Through

When searching for your first career, or even a new one, you need to ask yourself a very important question: “What drives me to get up every morning?” Is it to be a top-performing sales rep? Or maybe your ideal gig is working for a nonprofit to better animal welfare? Perhaps, you’ve already landed your dream job, but are feeling overwhelmed. If it takes coming in early, staying late or finding a mentor to get the results you desire, then do it. Go the extra mile and you will quickly achieve your goals.

No matter what your goals are, go after them with everything you have and you won’t be disappointed. You’ll have moments of despair when you think to yourself, “What was I thinking?” But don’t give up! The end result will be worth the trials and tribulation you’ve encountered.

You Did It

We’ve all heard, “Anything in life worth having is worth working for,” and that’s exactly what ambitious people do; they work hard. The feeling of accomplishment is like having a 500-pound weight lifted off your shoulders; it’s a high-five after winning a race or even the ecstatic “run around the house moment” after landing a job. You have greatness inside of you just waiting to burst through and sometimes taking a leap of faith is what lands you in the right destination.

You might not know your true career purpose until failing and trying again before nailing it.  Life is not perfect and mistakes happen. On the journey of your career, find the ambition that drives you and the end result might just surprise you.
